First impressions.

I am glad to see Sigma have supplied a centre-push/snap-on lens cap to enable the user to remove & replace it without having to remove the lens hood. I have the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC with the old style lens cap which drives me around the bend as it is impossible to quickly remove and replace it unless you remove the lens hood.

The lens itself seems well made and is attractive to me at least. The proof of the pudding is in the eating they say so I will find out if the lens deserves its reputation when I use it for the first time tomorrow.

Thoughts turn to a new lens.

I really miss the wide angle lens capabiities that film gave me, so with that in mind I been thinking about getting a super-wide lens to put on the front of my ageing but perfectly adequate Canon EOS 350D. The trouble is I worry whether the APS-C sensor has much of a future long term. That said I have opted for the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM & will post my test shots to Flickr as soon as I have bought the lens.

A trip to Haytor.

We took the kids up to Dartmoor today and killed two birds with one stone. We tired them out by climbing Haytor, and then we explored the the famous old Granite Tramway.

We were lucky; a local lady we met said that until a couple of weeks ago the rails were completely covered in gorse but that had all been cleared away in the last couple of days. I was pleased that the railway's points were so near the roadside, no more than 30 feet I would say.
